FULL RECOVERY AFTER SEVERE LOW BACK PAIN FROM HERNIATED DISC WITH SCIATICA

A herniated disc can occur by many means including as part of normal degeneration (tear and wear), trauma or poor posture, twisting or bending awkwardly while lifting, obesity and many others. According to NIH, the most common age group is 30-50 years of age. Male to Female ratio is 2:1. Improper lifting is a common cause.

Dr. Ankamah treated a 40-year-old male with end-stage herniated disc (extrusion). Think of a disc as a “doughnut with jelly in the middle. When the jelly comes out that means the integrity of the disc is seriously compromised.

I will categorize the stages of disc disease for simplicity as follows from mild to worse in that order:

  • Bulge: (Stage I)
  • Protrusion :(Stage II)
  • Herniation: (Stage III)
  • Extrusion: (Stage IV): (End stage)

The patient presented bent over in agonizing pain. After making the right diagnosis with electromyography and nerve conduction studies (EMG/NCS) and MRI, the patient achieved full recovery with the treatment plan Dr. Ankamah and his team provided. He is back to work full time without any restrictions, off all medications, and most important of all absolutely no surgery. He is enjoying life with his family and his profession once again. Multiple patients such as this patient have received their recovery with Dr. Ankamah’s special treatment approach.

If you can’t wait anymore and suffer from pain and look for a  non-surgical approach to your back pain, feel free to call 732-249-9400 for an appointment.
